INTRO./AIRPLANE DESIGN WIN/MAC
Introduction to Airplane Design
With this program, students learn about various scientific principles in order to understand how airplanes fly and to design one that will fly. Students get a chance to apply scientific principles and see simulations of many important aerodynamic concepts. They use computer-aided design to analyze and design gliders and to predict glider performance. The scientific principles developed in the program include:

  • Balance of Forces
  • Bernoulli’s Principle
  • Centrifugal Forces
  • Density
  • Energy
  • Fluid
  • Force
  • Friction
  • Geometric Change
  • Newton’s Laws of Motion
  • Moment or Torque
  • Pressure
  • Speed
  • Supersonic

The software comes with an additional package that includes many activities and labs that give the students the opportunity to test aerodynamic principles by flying balsa gliders, and helps them design their own gliders that fly well.

System Requirements: Macintosh computers with 25MHz or higher processor; System 6.0.5 or later; 3MB free disk space; 2.5MB RAM. IBM compatibles with 25 MHz or higher processor; Windows 3.1 with WIN32 extension or Windows 95/NT; 3MB free disk space; 8-16MB RAM.
