Music Production
Music Production
Students create a harmonized song by copying, pasting, and changing patch assignments and pitches.
This module focuses on desktop music production using the two main modern music production applications: MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) and digital audio. Students explore the history of electronic music, including MIDI. They are introduced to the main features of MIDI sequencing software and learn how to change tempos, musical styles, and musical keys. Students learn how to make a four-part harmonized song by copying, pasting, and changing patch assignments and pitches. Using the Jammer Professional software, students practice fine-tuning a pre-recorded song by choosing a style and adding drum fills and solos. Students sample their own voice and examine how it looks digitally. They then learn how to edit sampled audio data and insert it into a pre-recorded song file. In the last two activities, students learn how to import, edit, and mix clips in the Sonar application and how to record their dance groove to a CD. This curriculum will accommodate 7- or 10-day class rotations.
