This classroom kit walks students through the design and construction of a 3/4"-scale deck with 5 stairs. As they draw and build, students learn the basic principles of creating a floor and a set of stairs. This kit provides a basic introduction to planning and calculating simple stair runs. Students also learn about building codes, modeling, measuring and the use of scale in design.

The Deck and Stairs Kit includes a Teacher’s Guide, 15 sets of Student Instructions, a pack of 11" x 17" cross-section paper, 70 strips of 1/8" x 3/8" balsa, 20 strips of 1/8" x 3/4" balsa, 20 strips of 1/4" x 1/4" balsa, 15 bottles of glue and 15 corrugated cardboard bases—enough supplies for 15 student teams of 2.
