Crane Challenge Classroom Kit
Using this kit, students explore the fundamentals of crane design and are challenged to create their own crane arm for testing. Student teams then compete against one another as they lift a weight with their crane. This is a great way to introduce students to the science that surrounds the construction site. Students will learn about the different forces on a crane and will explore different modern day crane designs. During the challenge, students will electrically operate the crane (using a supplied gearbox) to raise and lower different loads, and will calculate the basic loads on their crane structure.
The Crane Challenge Kit includes a Teacher’s Guide, 15 sets of Student Instructions, 15 bottles of glue, 15 gearbox kits, assortment of balsa strips and sheets, 15 DC motors, 15 corrugated cardboard bases, a pack of assorted pulleys,washers,hex-nuts, rubber bands, metal axles, cross section 11 x17 paper and other supplies for 15 student teams of 2.
Note: Kit requires additional materials not supplied.
