Drafting

Drafting is a skill with applications in virtually every profession. Technical plans and drawings created by professional drafters are used in the design and production of everything from houses and skyscrapers to spacecraft and industrial machinery to toys and kitchen appliances. This module introduces students to basic drafting techniques through a series of guided, hands-on lessons. Students begin by sketching a variety of single and multi-view drawings while learning about orthographic projection, dimensioning, and isometric drawing, among other topics. They learn how to troubleshoot design problems and create models based on their solutions. Later activities guide students through the steps needed to design a packing box and teach them how to sketch inclined, oblique, and cylindrical surfaces. This curriculum will accommodate 7-, 10-, or 15-day class rotations.
