Architectural design principles are put to use in this design challenge. Students design the interior room layout for a ranch style house in 1/4 in. scale. They are given a footprint and exterior wall structure to work from. Elements of the interior layout include the location of windows, skylights, doors, partitions and other desired features. The house can be finished by painting it, and adding roofing and other accessories.
